It’s survival of the fittest as John Pollono’s amusing and outrageous New England-set drama Small Engine Repair opens off-Broadway on November 20. Starring Pollano (Showtime's Masters of Sex), James Badge Dale (AMC's Rubicon), James Ransone (HBO's The Wire) and Keegan Allen (Pretty Little Liars), Small Engine Repair runs at the Lucille Lortel Theatre through December 8.
Directed by Jo Bonney, Small Engine Repair follows Frank (Pollono), Swaino (Dale) and Packie (Ransone), buddies since high school who are now past their prime. They meet off-hours in Frank’s out-of-the-way repair shop under cloudy circumstances. Enter Chad (Allen), a plugged-in, preppy college jock, whose arrival ignites an explosion of long-simmering resentment and rage in this twisty, comic thriller.
The creative team for Small Engine Repair includes scenic design by Richard Hoover, costume design by Theresa Squire, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu and sound design by Jill BC Du Boff. The play premiered in 2011 at the Rogue Machine Theatre in Los Angeles, and won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for Playwriting as well as an Ovation Award and three Garland Awards.
